GPMP graduate student Ethan Stolen and his advisor, Dr. James Sohn, recently presented an extraordinary three abstracts at the prestigious 2025 Congress of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) in Vienna, Austria. Ethan traveled to Vienna from May 2nd-6th to present their innovative findings and explore the latest developments in radiation therapy.
Their work at Sohn Lab has received special recognition, with their research on a machine learning-based quality assurance tool for proton therapy earning an oral poster discussion. This innovative tool compares deviations in proton therapy spot positions recorded in machine log files against treatment plans, offering significant potential for improving treatment accuracy.
Notably, this high-quality and innovative abstract was ranked among the highest-scoring submissions and has been invited for publication as a full paper in the respected journal Physics and Imaging in Radiation Oncology (phiRO).
This achievement highlights the cutting-edge research being conducted within our department and demonstrates our program's continuing impact in the field of medical physics and radiation oncology. Read their abstract in the official ESTRO 2025 Abstract Book!
